The final mission.
K.B.Cooksey was reported missing on the 8
th April 1917, his aircraft being shot down whilst forming
an escort to a photographic mission over Etaing. His R.E.8 aircraft was numbered A4178. This
was on the first day of the Battle of Arras with photographic evidence of German positions
undoubtably being a high priority. The ensuing battle on the ground, was considered a success
for the Canadian regiments, despite some 10,000 men killed. On this fateful mission K.B.C was
accompanied with an observer, 2
nd mechanic Reginald Hansford Jones, (44854). An earlier
report listed his observer as A.M. Jones. This would seem to be incorrect. He was also
reported missing and dead.
